About

This blog is about books and other learning materials in accessible alternative formats, for pupils with additional support needs, who have difficulty reading and accessing standard printed books. This might be because they have a reading difficulty, due to dyslexia for example, or a visual impairment, or a physical difficulty with holding the book or turning the pages, or some other learning difficulty. By ‘accessible format’ we mean:

  • printed, in a larger or different font, or on coloured paper, or in Braille, or with symbols;
  • digital (e.g. PDF, Daisy, DOC, HTML, Clicker, Powerpoint, Flash etc) so that a reader can listen to it using text or screen-reader software, or use assistive technology to turn the pages;
  • audio, either human recorded or synthetic MP3 formats.
